To overcome these we add another 50% on top. During field tests we have found this design rule, even if it is very crude, to be able to keep your caravan solar system charged under most conditions.

All our systems use MPPT charge regulators. Usually integrated into a DC/DC charger that can also be fed from your alternator. That way you can charge while you are driving and while the sun is out and a panel connected. Most DC/DC chargers we use have a green priority setup. This means power from your caravan’s solar system always has priority over alternator power.
The DC/DC charger will use what it can get from solar and top up the rest from the available alternator power.
